I don't know why it took me so long to get here but it's pretty delicious. We split the Corazon sopes (ribeye and grilled shrimp) and the North Park ceviche. The ceviche was really good. Nice big chunks of white meat and all the refreshing veggies typically on ceviche. The sopes were tremendous though. A bit difficult to eat like any other sopes but definitely worth the effort. Will definitely be back to try more things!!!

I went with a friend on a Sunday afternoon and it was so dead I thought it was closed. That being said, the food and drinks were excellent. This is not a taco shop and you won't be paying taco shop prices. This is lovely, fresh, elevated Baja California-style cuisine. The shop is very cute. The help was so laid back I occasionally worried that they'd forgot we were there. But there was absolutely no pressure. The mango ceviche I ate was awesome. The margarita was delicious as well. They have an extensive wine list of Baja California wines. If you know what you're in for, and have come for that experience this place is great. What it's not is your average Mexican joint. I'd go back.

The tacos were great! We got the fish tacos and they were tasty. They also come with two spicy sauces which really add flavor to the tacos. The only reason I took one star off is because the reason we came in was because they put flyers all over our neighborhood advertising a taco Tuesday deal (3 fish tacos for $8) but when we went in the menu didn't reflect this deal and when we asked the server she had no idea what I was talking about. We went back home to get the flyer (we live about a 5 min walk away) and when we showed it she honored the deal. I don't blame the server at all though; it is the responsibility of an owner to inform employees when they decide to change up the menu and advertise different deals.
I would come back but will bring the flyer with me until they have more accurate menus available. -

Located in the old Tostada's location, La Catrina is offering flavors from Baja California in this newly renovated colorful eatery.
I had several items, including a fish & Shrimp Ceviche mini tostada, and pair of Corazon de Rib Eye Sopes which included grilled shrimp. The Sopes were $11.
The Sope vehicle are made locally, but everything else that came on the Sopes are made in house. The rib eye was tender and juicy, but it would be nice if it included a little bit of that charring flavor or smokiness from a grill. The shrimp were succulent and came with a very good seasoning. The beans were very nice and the avocado jelly was flavorful. My favorite were the marinaded and pickled onions on top of the Sopes. Oh yes, a little sprinkle of queso fresco would of worked well here.
The masa of the Sopes was well made. They had good texture and held up well. Their thickness was just right and they had a mild corn or masa flavor.
Adrianna my server was awesome! She made great recommendations. Rogelio was very good at explaining all the ingredients the menu items come with. -

I was sad to hear that Tostadas had closed, but this place is the reincarnation of the former tenant. The interior had art pieces depicting what could pass as a celebration of Dia De Los Muertos. The front page of the menu listed the choices of ceviche, tacos and the oyster bar. The back side of the menu contained the selections of cazuelas, entrées and desserts.
I sat at the bar and started my meal with the Baja Ceviche which featured white shrimp, watermelon, ginger, and pico de gallo in a cilantro sauce. The sauce was much darker than what I have seen with ceviches, but the taste was fine and not too tart.
For my entree, I got the Carnitas and Octopus cazuela. In a small earthware container, there was a mix of pork, octopus, wild mushrooms and caramelized onions. The pork was very tasty, but I wish there were more pieces of pulpo. The four pieces of flour tortillas were the perfect quantity for this dish.
At the end, I received a card that provided a $5 discount for the purchase of two items which was a nice surprise on their grand opening day. The Baja focused cuisine served here should help this place stand out among the other Mexican eateries in North Park.
